}} About - Amy Elise

Who is Amy Elise Walter (née Card)?

I’m a marketer who fell out of love with marketing.

Why?

Because it fell out of touch with humanity.

I realised, though, that I’ve got the power to change it in my corner at least, so I’m trying to do things a little bit differently.

Stick around if you think it needs a shake-up too.

My experience so far

I grew up in the South Wales valleys, never appreciating the steep undulation of greenery on my horizon, sights firmly set further afield.

Studying French and Italian at the University of Leeds was a decision based only on the gut feeling that I needed to explore the wider world and all of the baked goods it had to offer me.

I moved to Oxfordshire just days after my final University exam, into the world of academic publishing where I worked in Sales and Marketing, both in-house and agency-side. The dizzying speed of the tech industry eventually drew me in. I led a fully remote, global marketing team at a multi-million dollar Software as a Service company through a complete rebrand during a pandemic.

I advocated for better mental health support across the company and industry – training as a Mental Health First Aider and, later, Suicide First Aider with Siendo. I continue to encourage those around me to implement better #DigitalBoundaries during tough times.

I left because I wanted to pursue something beyond growth. Something that would leave the world better than I found it.

In the year between July 2021-2022 I was in charge of raising a tiny human on maternity leave. Not only did that force me to develop an entirely new level of project management skills, negotiation prowess and resilience, but it also strengthened my resolve more than ever.

What’s my “why”?

Since becoming a mum, since the COVID-19 pandemic, since *gestures vaguely at the world*, my priorities have shifted. My personal values have crystallised into sharp focus.

I live in Bristol now, with husband, tiny human, and dog, and view the undulating green on the horizon as something to be ever grateful for and protective of.

The frantic pace of consumption and growth is something I now view as in need of tempering, not aspiring to. We cannot afford the cost of exceeding planetary boundaries, and the most vulnerable in society should not have to pay the price.

We’re experiencing a societal communication breakdown, and I know that’s something that critically needs fixing in order to ensure a future where everyone can thrive.

I want to see a world where small, local businesses stand a chance against multinationals. Where business owners aren’t forced to awkwardly parade themselves on Reels in exhausting pursuit of an algorithm. Where people buy from people, not the ad with the highest programmatic bid.

I want to see a world where experts are trusted, where positive initiatives flourish and make significant change. Where everyone gets to see a little bit of green on their horizon.

I want to see a world where we hold on to our humans, and our humanity, and that gives us all the resilience to effect real, positive, widespread change.

Who I work with

Acknowledging that there are many stages to change, I work with small to medium businesses that want to transform some aspect of our world for the better. I believe in companies making some profit, but never through the exploitation of people or the planet.

I’m particularly interested in initiatives focusing on:

  • Climate change prevention, regenerative economics and sustainable development
  • Promoting healthier digital boundaries and tech humanism
  • Mental health and happier, more sustainable workplaces
  • Better childcare support for working parents and postnatal support for mums, dads, birthing and non-birthing parents.

The lightbulb was invented by the flame of the candle. If we only recognise and support those who already have everything figured out we’ll miss opportunities to move the needle more broadly in the right direction.

Whether you are already a registered BCorp, charity or non-profit, or are only just starting to make changes to your business values, products and services, I’m here.

If you’ve got an idea that might make the world even the slightest bit better, I want to help you shout about it.

The change has to start now, and it has to start with us.
